Apple Store coming to Belfast?
I got sent a link to the following image of the floor plan for the Victoria Square retail centre due to open in Belfast in early 2008.   If you look opposite River Island, there’s a familiar name in one of the units :-) Strange thing is that there’s no mention of Apple in the list of Victoria Square’s key tenants, so I’m still taking this with a pinch of salt.  UPDATE: This...

Words of wisdom from the 37 Signals guys. I actually bought the PDF edition of Getting Real when it was first released and consider it to be money very well spent. Glad to see it’s now freely available online for all to read.

iPhone UK activation woes
It looks like things aren’t going so well for UK early adopters of the iPhone. Problems and delays with activation such as this really aren’t what you’d expect, especially given the lesson that Apple should have learnt from AT&T following the US launch. I think I’m going to hold off for a few weeks to give O2 a chance to iron out the gremlins before taking the plunge.

Jaysus, we're in Cork boyo!
Whilst I was absolutely blown away by the first season of Heroes, I’m feeling more than a little underwhelmed by season 2 so far. I expected the worst as soon as I saw ‘Cork, Ireland’ appear on screen to let us know where we were, and as soon as  the first actor opened his mouth I wasn’t to be disappointed. Not since Tom Cruise’s woeful Oirish accent attempt in Far...

GMail IMAP support in UK
It seems that IMAP isn’t too easy to translate from US English to UK English. Ever since Google added IMAP support to GMail, I’ve been waiting patiently for it to show up in the Settings tab of my Google-Apps powered jameswiltshire.com email. It had shown up in a few other domains I manage, so I was puzzled why it should take so long for this one domain.  It turns out it was all down...

It's not you - it's me
It was always only going to be a matter of time before Fernando Alonso and McLaren went their separate ways. That time is now.  Ron Dennis:  ”He is a great driver but for some reason the combination of McLaren-Mercedes and Fernando has not really worked out, and in the end we reached a stage where none of us could find a way to move forward.” None of us could find a way to move...

Dead Mac Walking
My MacBook Pro had a near death experience today. Whilst putting the finishing touches to a Keynote presentation the spinning beachball of doom showed up, uninvited. And never left. Total UI lockup - machine completely unresponsive - time for a hard reset. Now this is where things started to get really worrying. After resetting, I hit the power button to start the machine up again. Startup...
