Amazon EC2 Persistent Storage

The cloud computing model just seems to be getting more and more compelling every day. Amazon have just announced planned support for persistent storage within EC2 instances. Volumes ranging in size from 1GB - 1TB can be created on demand. These can then be backed up to S3 using a snapshot facility.

When Amazon released SimpleDB last year I was pretty intrigued, but always felt that some form of persistent storage such as that now being offered was truly the final piece of the cloud  computing model for RDBMS backed webapps.
